Wan Two Three is engaged!

Well we like to tease her and call her Wan Two Three.  The future husband's family asked for her hand in marriage just over the weekend. For the Malays, you have to go through at least 2 ceremonies before you can be wed. One is the merisik ceremony, simply put, the guy's family asking whether the girl is available and whether they can proceed with the engagement ceremony which will be done later. This is my very layman understanding, there's actually a lot of do's and dont's of the ceremonies, too long to write and too lazy to research for more info.

Then, there's the engagement ceremony. Eventhough nowadays young couples already come into an agreement whether or not they want to get married, the engagement cannot be formalised by only kneeling on one knee and proposing..like how we see in those TV series/movies.

During the engagement ceremony, the guy's family will come to discuss with the girl's family to formalise the engagement and set a date to be married. Normally both families do not speak but are represented by another person close to the family to do all the talking. Well, the points have already been discussed earlier on so the representative already knows what to say when speaking for the family they are representing. If there are any discrepancies, the representative can always refer back to the parents he is representing to get their okay.

Basically that's a very layman and short description on the Malay engagement ceremony. I might have missed out a lot of points :)

And now after an agreement has been finalised (i.e.: dowry amount, date of  solemnisation, what happens if the engagement is called off and etc), the mother of the future husband puts on the engagement ring on her ring finger. And no, the man cannot be the one doing it because he is not allowed to do so.

And the Lions Unite!

Last 2 weeks my old boss from the orangy lion company texted to invite me over to her house. She decided to do a makan-makan with the Corporate Communications team and although I have long left the team, I was roped in as well. Ah, so terharu.

Her house is located in Subang Jaya..and I guess both she and her husband have good taste. Really love what she did with the house. She does not have carpets (I try not to place too many carpets in my home as well to ease the cleaning process)..and she has this unique floor at her dry kitchen and also a unique sink in the restroom.  She used her old sewing machine, jenama Singer tu, and made it as the kaki or the base to hold the sink. Very very nice! yes and silly me I didnt take any pictures..a bit shy to simply take pictures of her home.

Indeed it was a homey home..loved it. Well, more about the get together..both she and her husband cooked for dinner..there was mutton, chicken tandoori, veggies and other stuff. There was also oreo cheesecake brought by one of the teammates and bubur kacang made by KC.

the food was good but what made it a blast was having all of them there, talking and chatting away. Oh how I miss my old team very much. :( But I guess, life goes on..I am not part of the team anymore but I will always be apart of their lives as they are mine, I hope, for years to come. Cheers to good friends and good company!

When you're sick and McD does not deliver...

Boy o boy this is what happens when I am sick and hungry...
...to the housing area that you in. Boleh jadi Incredible Hulk no? Stress..dahla tak sihat and in my situation (am sick due to a packet of nasi lemak I had the day before) memangla tak boleh nak drive out to buy stuff/food. Telephone McD, they said 'Maaf kami tak buat penghantaran ke Denai Alam' What? Ooh oho ohohooo..boy was I frustrated nak makan bubur McD tak dapat. Boo hoo.

So any McD people here..if you happen to come across this entry (which i think nobody from McD will in a gazillion years), please please open a branch in Denai Alam/Bukit Subang area. By the by, meyimpang sikit.. area Bukit Subang tu dah lama wujud but still no banking facilities, restos yang best-best around.. can't wait for the commercial centre in Denai to complete and we will then have our own shops, restos (hopefully) and places to shop.

For now we just have to make do with the small shoplot near Denai ni, tapi belum complete..and the cafe, well let's just say that it is not the best cafe to start off with..and they are taking so loooooong to complete the renovation. Hence, kita kena bersabar sajelah.

Boo hoo...the agony of staying at a new residential area.
